Ah, Fresno. I recently took a trip home and after a 7+ hour (door-to-door) train ride, I was greeted by 108 degree weather and thunderstorms. Did you know that Fresno had a flag? I certainly didn’t. Also, if you read the Wikipedia link about Fresno (above) pay particular attention to the West Side listing. For some reason it cracks me up that this would be included in an encyclopedia entry.
But I digress. The point of this story is mini-thread catchers, isn’t it? Suz and I saw a rather large version of this project in a quilt store back home, and I decided that I could probably make a cuter one. When I am working on a hand quilting project I have little pieces of thread all over the place (my stepdad calls them snippets). Soooo- this project is the solution to all of that.

So basically this is a beanbag (I filled it with little beads and a few pinches of lavender for some good smelliness) with a little pouch on the end for your snippets and whatnot. The best part is that I was able to whip these babies out in a couple of hours; I made one for me, and one for Suz!

nice fabric! this is a fun idea. When I’m piecing things I keep a small piece of scrap fabric (doubled) at hand to sew through at the beginning or the end of any seam or chain of pieces. The thread doesn’t tangle, you don’t have to pull out a big length of thread at the end, and there’s no snippets! Just cut the thread in between your piece and the extra bit, like you would if you were chain-piecing. I LOVE this trick.
